Primary Purpose

Provide students identified with dyslexia and other related learning difficulties with individualized, intensive, multisensory instruction to support the development of reading, writing, and spelling ability.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

 

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Texas Teachers Certification
  • CALT preferred or commitment to attend a two-year therapy program
  • Take Flight certification preferred
  • SPED certification preferred

 

 

Experience

  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

 

  • Knowledge of Dyslexia and related disorders
  • Knowledge of research-based reading, writing, and spelling instructional practices
  • Knowledge of MTSS and Section 504
  • Knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process
  • Knowledge of the Individual Education Program (IEP) goal-setting process and implementation
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and use student data to inform instruction
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to support all students
  • Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Identification, Instruction, and Progress Monitoring

  • Instruction using the district’s K-12 dyslexia programming
  • Provide differentiated student support
  • Participation in multidisciplinary team-based evaluations for Dyslexia
  • Collaboration on IEP goal development, present levels of performance, and progress monitoring
  • Ongoing program-specific progress monitoring of student achievement through formal and informal measures
  • Dyslexia program-specific progress reporting to parents
  • Attendance at all required 504/ARD meetings
  • Facilitation of campus-based Dyslexia trainings and parent nights
  • Participation in district-wide Dyslexia department events or trainings

 

 

 

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create an in-person or virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required

 

Communication

  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members

 

Professional Growth/Development and Other

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position
